Should I play a good portion of the story out in my head before I start to write?
I’ve been planning on writing a story for a little while now, I’ve gotten to know my characters and I’ve got the basic idea of what’s going to happen. I think I’ve figured out how I want to start the story, but would it be better for me to wait a while and see what happens in my head before I actually start to write?

write it out, that way you wont lose/forget anything that happens to them…best of luck hun~x
I would jot down key information in your story so you don’t forget them when you start writing. Like character traits or key moments in the story.
you can start writing and keep thinking and if the story changes in your mind you can change it but it is better to start writing
That’s excellent! For those who tend to forget, writing an outline helps even more. Most of the time, I loose my plot or a scene I wanted to write, so when I really want to write it, I jot it down quickly. It really helps.
What you would want to do is develope a basic storyline in your head, what you want the story to be about, who each character is and those things, and thing of the start. then when your not wrinting or your in the car and things like that, you think of were you want your story to go, and what you want to happen, so when you get to writing again you know what you want to write and all you do is make it better.
hope i helped
if i can help with anything else email me
yea definitely. you dont want to go off free writing and get stuck in the middle with no where to go. that happened to me…it’s a bad feeling
Yes, because if you start writing before you know what the ending will be, you might get stuck in an untie-able knot.
Like I was writing a story about a snake, and it just got all tied up and irreveleverent. I really did not like the opening at all.
Imho, it would be better to think more before starting to write … may be not to the end but substantial enough that you are sure about the direction of the story. This would also allow you to build characters, lay plots in ways that would help you in the story going forward.
Well actually writing out an out line will help a lot, keeps you on track and reminds you where you were going with a scene.
But I say yes, it’s always best if you as the author can imagine the scene like it’s a movie almost, it will make writing easier and faster, and if you can imagine it, then your readers will also be able to imagine it!
My advice it do get your idea, write an outline, imagine the scenes and just write, write, write. I once read that writers don’t write, we re-write. So just get it all out and finished, and you can always go back and change things, add or delete, so make it all flow better.
Good luck!
Yes you should always do that other wise you might get stuck down the road in like the middle of the story. BUT be very CAREFUL because when you play it out in your head it doesn’t always come out the same way just because it makes since to you dosn’t mean a complet stranger will know what your talking about. So make sure you tell whats going on in the story.
Start to write what you have. You may forget the brilliant ideas you’ve created already.
Once the ideas are down, you can always change them down the road.
Just write you will never get anywhere if you don’t write, I prefer to type because information can easily be changed, but any other information if like a lapse of thought should be jotted down.
but also try and have voices in your mind that correspond to that of the character you envisaged.
Acting out situations yes, try not to do it near the public, you be stared at like a fool, i should know
I started a story in January of this year and I am a quarter of the way through it, something else to get your juices flowing is to have people reading it at the moment, they are really supportive this helps too.
Please can you look over mine…thanks
Don’t wait.
People who write can tell you about the value of writing several drafts, and seeing it in writing, you can see where some details might need to be fleshed out, or more thoroughly thought out. By all means, don’t stop the story from playing out in your head, but you won’t be writing all the time. When you are doing other things, like cooking, eating, showering, is when your characters will be advancing your plot and showing their own personalities in your head.
