What is the legendary story about Lawrence Olivier hurting himself during the filming of Hamlet?

Story & Character Development
Catie B asked:

I know I’ve heard this somewhere but can’t find it now. In the final scene of Hamlet, Hamlet (Olivier) jumps off a ledge to attack King Claudius. Supposedly, Olivier knew he’d be hurt by this move but wanted the scene to be intense and dramatic. He ended up breaking a leg or in some other way hurting himself, so this was a get-it-in-one-take kind of moment.

Anybody know this story? Have a source to prove it? Thanks!

Tips for working on multiple projects?

Script Writing Tips
Checkers- the -Wolf asked:

Ok, here it goes I have different writing projects I started at different times. The ones that are top priority for me right now are 2 original fiction manuscripts I’m re-doing and another I had started a month ago but haven’t finished, 1 fan fiction story where I went back and re-wrote the first 2 chapters, a fan fiction prequel and the story that it leads up to and last but not least are my scripts, one is for a feature film, the second is the pilot episode for a cartoon and the 3rd is an animated short film. I have most of the story-lines worked out in each project but at the same time I’m trying not to run myself ragged with all these projects I have yet to finish. At the moment my scripts are at the top of my list since I plan to enter the screenplay in a contest and register both it and my cartoon pilot with the WGA(Writers guild of America) then when I’m not working my scripts, I’ll switch over to the other projects on my top priority list. I know some writers work on different projects so they don’t get bored and I sometimes do this myself since I do get tired of working on the same story but I usually push myself to keep going so I don’t stop altogether. The last few months I was in a really bad creative rut where I wanted to write but could hardly bring myself to do it and when I did my writing wasn’t as good as it normally is. But anyway, I could use some tips for writing more than one story.

Anyone have any tips for working on multiple projects?

Are these good characters for a UK teen drama?

Script Writing secrets
{ s i l v e r } ιn ωondeяℓαnd asked:

I am currently writing a TV Show script that my friend’s uncle is considering producing.

The show is set at a private boarding school 6th form in West London (UK), near Kensington.

However, the characters are not stuck up, like in Gossip Girl. They are just like normal working-class teens, only wealthier. All the characters are loosely based on people I know, as I believe its best to write from experience. The only link between all the characters (other than their friendship) is that they all have secrets.

The characters are:

–Liliana Matilda “LILY” Collins:
The cold-hearted, orphaned genius who moved up a year in school. She bitterly resents her ex-boyfriend Alex, but secretly still loves him. Lily is mixed-race (half-black, half-white) and is constantly subjected to racist abuse from her aunt Grace (her legal guardian), who resents the fact that her sister had a baby with a black man. She is not rich like the others, but they don’t know this.

–Brittany Madison “BRITT” Summers:
The stuck-up, rich, American dancer. She is often seen as a slut, but she isn’t. She has a new boyfriend almost weekly. She’s always having relationship problems, and fears that she will never reach her goals in life, but she would never tell anyone of this. She falls for her best friend Em’s cousin, Gabriel, an absolute womanizer.

–Emerald Delilah “EM” Laker:
The wild, emotional-wreck who was forced to go to boarding school because her parents couldn’t put up with her. Her friends believe going to boarding school was her own choice. She has little talent, and her family paid her way into the school, unlike getting a full/part scholarship like her friends. She doesn’t get on well with Lily, and is Alex’s new object of affection.

–Coralie Grace “CORA” Stewart:
Alex’s twin sister. She is half-French (which explains her name) and from a big family. She is loving, artsy and full of energy, and the only one with a permanent boyfriend (Jack Smith). She appears to be happy, but is worried her parents will get a divorce and is concealing anxiety problems.

–Alexandre Sam “ALEX” Stewart:
Cora’s twin brother. He is half-French (which explains his name) and from a big family. The musician who is struggling to choose who he wants – his ex-girlfriend Lily and his new interest Em. He hides all his worries and problems.

–Jasper Cyrus “JAZZ” Esfandyar:
The son of a great Persian businessman. He is a gifted athlete, but his father wants him to follow in his footsteps and take over the family. He has a life threatening illness that none of his friends know about. He finds it almost impossible to get a girlfriend.

The show’s storylines would be about stuff that regular teens deal with at that age – drugs, alcohol, parties, relationships, sex, school, money etc.
Also, it may seem like they’re not easy to relate to, but they are actually easier to relate to than meets the eye. Each character is a combination of someone I know who goes to a boarding school (I know quite a few boarding schoolers as I went to boarding school for a year) and someone I know who is from a working-class background. Trust me, rich, boarding school kids and working-class state/public school kids are really not that different.
I wasn’t aware that ‘boarding school’ wasn’t original :/
All UK teen dramas seem to be about working-class teens and I wanted to do something a little but different. I thought boarding school was an original twist, because I haven’t seen any boarding school dramas, but I could be wrong.
Matthew Smith – Brittany is an AMERICAN character.
Jamie – I hope I didn’t offend you :S
Brittany’s really a nice girl … I promise. The reason she’s American is because she’s loosely based on an American girl I know.

Do you like my poems.i wrote them this summer?

PeAcE gurl asked:

Have You
Have you ever seen
Kids on a merry go round
Or seen rain
Fall on the ground
Have you ever felt waves
brush against your feet
Or have been ignored
As you silently take a seat
Have you ever heard
the gentle wind blow
As you run outside
Into the soft powdery snow
Have you ever touched
a delicate flower
Or felt that you had all the power
Have you ever written something
That you thought was no good
But then you discovered
You did the best you could

Hate and Love
I write in the air
Every day and night
From when we said I love you
To having our last fight
Although you don’t understand
What I’m going through
I could never want to see you again
But I always crawl back to you
We had our share of moments
Ones that wouldn’t last
Although I still love
Our relationship is in the past
I kept your secret
And fed your lies
Healed your scars
Heard your cries
Hated when you loved
Hit when you kissed
But no matter what happens
In my heart you’ll be missed

these i wrote early this summer/the end of the school yr

The Game
Do you seriously
Have what it takes
To take risks
Or to make mistakes

I’m not an actor to your script
I ignore you all the way
This is my life and I have a choice
I don’t have to listen to what you say

You have no power here
What do you have to prove
Just leave and don’t say goodbye
Go ahead and make your next move

But nothings impossible
If you have faith and pray
Go and face reality
Miracles happen everyday

I pray to a God that won’t listen
I make moves that I shouldn’t take
But now its your turn to lose
The game is over,checkmate

this is the last one

Do you Dare

Do you dare
To come out at night
While the moon is full
And the stars are bright

The valley we rule
Echoes our cries
We rule everything
Under the night skies

Do you still dare
To come at us tonight
To fight and win
Til’ mornings light

The woods are our home
Do not enter we say
It all belongs to us
You may not stay

People try to find us
We’ve been around forever
We hide in disguise
Because we’re noble and clever

We have teeth as sharp as knives
Our feet run with the wind
Our piercing eyes
Glow within

Just another second
Until you’re straight in view
So now tell me human
Who is better than who

Is it possible to salvage old 8mm movie film?

movies and film
Johnny D asked:

I just pulled out my parents old 1940′s vintage Ampro 8mm projector, oiled it, and was pleased to find it in great working order. Unfortunately, when I tried to show our old home movies of 1940-70 vintage, they were very dark. I think the film has deteriorated. Can it be lightened and put on DVD or some other new medium? Where would I go to have this done?
