How easy is it to add a second story over an existing first story?

Story & Character Development
Melissa K asked:

my house already has an upstairs over two of the downstairs rooms, but the rest of the house is only one story. i thought i had heard before that it is easier and smarter financially to just start over than to build on top of an existing structure?? should i even bother contacting people to come check it out?

What is the story with the knight saving a maiden from scalding water?

Story & Character Development
seahawk2006 asked:

There is an old myth/folktale – I seem to remember it from the Arthurian legends, but I could be wrong – about a knight (or prince or otherwise brave royal fellow) rescuing a maiden (or princess, or otherwise fair lady) from boiling or scalding water. His test of bravery and sacrifice is that he has to put his hands in the hot water and endure the burning pain. I remember this story from my childhood, but can’t find any information about where it came from. Does this tale ring any bells?

tips for screenwriting?

Script Writing Tips
dilip asked:

i have a basic idea/plot,but i don’t know how to write a script for my plot.
plz tell me the efficient way to makes scenes out of my plot.any tips, suggestions, things to be followed during screenwriting is extremely helpful.
i don’t want to make a perfect script of 90-120 pages, but i just want to complete my story in some 5-6 pages.
so that one would get a rough idea about the basic plot and few scenes.

Any tips on selling ideas? (10 points)?

Script Writing Tips
nikki.fira asked:

I have an ‘Idea Journal’ almost halfway full of ideas and more are coming into my head as i type. My ideas are not overused (fairly original, if my research proves accurate.) and are not too bad. I can mange to write at least a half-page of a synopsis, and at LEAST a few pages worth of an introduction/first chapter.

But, I never have time or motivation to finish a story or write a script. I just get too many ideas and other projects going at once.

Many of my friends have suggested that I sell my ideas/half a script to a scriptwriter or something. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions or tips on how a 16-year old could go about doing that.

I am not full of myself, nor am I looking to get rich and/or famous by doing this. My ideas are my children that I (normally) give away. I just want some smidgen of credit. (Although, getting paid would be nice.)

My mum says that I should get a patent or copyright or whatever for each idea, so that I get my name on it and get credit, as well as keeping Hollywood or someone from messing with my idea and calling it their own.

Does anyone have any advice or resources for a 16 year-old to begin selling/planning to eventually sell her ideas to some sort of scriptwriter or author? (I’m not sure if authors do that kind of thing…)

How old do you have to be to do this kind of business?
Where to start out small and work my way up? I’m willing to do some sort of internship, if applicable.
How much does a copyright/patent cover? Just the general idea, or the whole excerpt of the story I send?
Generally, when writing an idea, I can manage to expand it and get at least half a page worth of introduction/first ‘chapter’ down, so does that qualify as a ‘written work’ or not?
How much does one generally charge, or does the copyright determine that?
Do you stay with the idea the whole way (like an editor or a BETA) or do you just drop the idea and then it’s forbidden? Will the writer be able to contact me for something that might be considered unclear or anything?
What about the “Creative Commons License” Doesn’t that apply only to artwork?

Thank you VERY much, and ten points for the best answer.
I know that ideas alone cannot be copyrighted, so I generally add some sort of introduction. (at least a page worth of information and/or possible scenes)

Is this introduction/first chapter considered a ‘written work’ or will my idea still be (as my friend puts it) ‘vulnerable’?

What is the difference between a 2 story and a 1.5 story house in real estate?

Story & Character Development
Tennessee Chick asked:

My parents just put their house on the market, and the real estate agent has listed it as a 1.5 story house. It has 4 bedrooms and a full bathroom upstairs though. Why isn’t it considered a 2 story house instead?
They live in Missouri so no hurricane damage. There IS a bathroom upstairs, and the ceilings are 10 feet high. It is a 70 year-old, remodeled house. Maybe the real estate agent is just a bitch.
Here is the link to the house listing:

What is the most important but underreported story of the year?

Story & Character Development
Arianna Huffington asked:

Even in our 24/7, 500 channel universe, lots of important stories never show up in the mainstream press – or they do show up only to be quickly pushed aside by the media obsession du jour (including runaway brides and celebrity trials). What news story from the past year do you feel didn’t get enough attention from the press – and why do you think it didn’t?

I want to start making my own short movies?

Script Writing Tips
LinnLovestruck<3 asked:

So, I have a couple of questions.

1. Anyone have any tips for camera angles and things? We only have one camera, but I want to make the movies, like, good quality.
2. Anyone got any ideas on how to ask my friends about starring in it? I’ve not actually told them about the fact that I’ve been writing scripts, because it probably seems quite nerdy to them
3. What’s the best way to get the sound displayed really well? As I mentioned, I only have the camera, so would I have to have it on a really calm day so the wind doesnt mess it up, or what?

Thanks in advance!
